Rafael Moreno, Indian Rosewood/Cedar 2011
Rafael Moreno is one of the top-of-the-line Spanish guitar builders. I have known him for more than 20 years. I recently saw a classical guitar from Rafael at a friend's in Granada. I then ordered the same model from him as a flamenco guitar. The guitar impressed me thanks to its expressive treble. The guitar was ready in August, and I visited Rafael to pick it up. I have to admit that he built it exactly as I wanted it. An extraordinary instrument. Rafael is a gifted craftsman, and his method of building guitars is characterized by perfect aesthetics. He only selects the finest woods, and his adornments are beautiful. The guitar actually almost looks like an historical one, because guitar builders in the past put a lot of work into edge inlays, etc. as Rafael still does today.
The sound is very original. Depending on how you play it, it can have a classical touch or a perfect flamenco sound. This is certainly due to the cedar soundboard. It has overtones with no end. A beautiful sound with a great treble. A real masterpiece.
