Jesús de Jiménez, Cypress/Spruce 2011
New in my shop. He lives in Gilena, a small village near Seville.
He has been building guitars for a few years, and many pros and semi-pros in Andalusia play them. There is an impressive photo gallery in his workshop, where you can see everyone who is anyone. Even Paco de Lucia owns one of his guitars. In spite of that, his guitars are still an insider's tip. I was the first person from a shop to visit him. He was very impressed by that, which is the reason why he built three cypresses for me right away, from which I could choose the best one. I did that in the middle of October, and I was so impressed by the result that I took two of them at that time.
His concept is completely traditional, and he is mainly self-taught. The sound is exactly what you expect from a flamenco guitar. Dark bass sounds and ringing trembles combined with easy playability are exactly what most guitarists in Andalusia – as in the rest of the world – look for. He already has a waiting list of more than one year. I can select a rosewood guitar from him in January, and I am already looking forward to it.
Mine is the only shop in the world to which he supplies.
