José Ramirez, Cypress/Cedar 1969
An original José Ramirez 1a from 1969. The 60s were the best years of the famous guitar building dynasty of Ramirez. The quality became increasing worse after that until they finally even had to declare bankruptcy a few decades later, in debt because they had bought more and more overpriced factory-made guitars. In the meantime, the brand Ramirez is only marketing of the name.
However, a Ramirez from the 60s is still something special. Legendary guitar builders such as Bernabé and Martínez worked in the Ramirez workshop at that time and built spectacular flamenco guitars.
This Ramirez is a typical guitar of that epoch, made of cypress with cedar soundboard. It is a light as a feather and just as easy to play. It has a beautiful, slightly dry sound, typical for that time.
It had a crack in the soundboard, which was repaired and secured excellently. Then the soundboard was varnished by a specialist using nitro lacquer and new tap protection was glued on. The original look has been maintained. The crack can no longer be seen and will certainly never pose problems again. The back and sides have a few slight traces of use, which is completely normal in an instrument of this age.
