Impressions from Andalusia; photos I took during my trips through this fascinating region.

The Alpujarras, the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The Sierra extends from the east of Granada almost to Almeria. The southern mountain range is called the Alpujarras. I lived for a few years in this mountainous region, and it has remained one of my favorite areas in Andalusia till today. There are many villages there that look like the villages in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. Not a lot has changed there since the time of the Moors in Spain.
Here are a few photos from the area around Alhama de Granada, a very beautiful landscape with many olive trees west of Granada. Alhama is a small, old town with well known spa and hot springs. You can relax in the hot water of small natural pools at the edge of a stream outside of the spa in the evenings. There is a very beautiful, old hotel, "La Siguirilla", there. The owner is Paco Moyano, a flamenco singer. Great food and cozy ambience.
"Cabo de Gata" is a nature reserve east of Almeria. You can best the best beaches in the Mediterranean there. I don't recommend it in the high season in summer, because there are too many people then; otherwise, it is a real insider's tip. There are a few small villages, great water for swimming and a lot of peace and quiet.
"Playa Boloña" is a beach on the Atlantic coast, north of Tarifa. It has always attracted the flamenco scene from Jerez and Seville in the summer. Lots of wind, endless beaches and a few great bodegas.
Seville is one of the most beautiful cities in Andalusia. There is a lot of tourism, but also innumerable great bars as well as dance and guitar schools. I always look forward to sitting on one of the small squares in Seville nights and enjoying the warmth, good food and ambience of this beautiful city.
