
Bernd Martin
Bernd Martin, born in Stuttgart in 1954
He already studied piano and guitar as a child. Later, he taught guitar at the Stuttgart School of Music and then in Munich.
His passion for Spanish guitar finally led Bernd Martin to Granada in 1976 to learn the craft of guitar building.
The old master Eduardo Ferrer (Casa fundada en 1875) made it possible for Bernd Martin to apprentice in the workshops of Antonio Duran and José López Bellido, where he built his first guitar.
He soon opened his own workshop in an old city district of Granada, Albayzin.
Bernd Martin and his wife, the flamenco dancer and singer Mati Gómez, spent the whole year 1992 in Jerez de la Frontera to dedicate himself intensively to flamenco guitars.
In 1999, Bernd Martin won the “1o Premio Nacional de Lutheria” awarded by J.L. Romanillos.
He opened his new workshop in Sacromonte, the flamenco center of Granada with the famous “Zambras”, in 2006. The instruments are checked by professional players for their most intricate details and fine-tuned on this “test track" full of “duende”.
Both pros and aficionados hold the guitars of Bernd Martin in high esteem, and they can be heard on the latest recordings of the well-known singer Marina Heredia with the guitarist Luis Mariano Renedo, among other places.
His son Lucas Martin has also made a reputable name for himself as guitar builder under the tutelage of his fathe
