Pepe Justicia 1960-2024
On November 9, 2024, a good old friend and brilliant guitarist was suddenly torn from our midst. (May he rest in peace.). We see him in this photo with the guitarist and his friend "El Amir" on the occasion of a video recording in Freiburg The brilliant guitarist and composer Pepe Justicia passed away unexpectedly on November 10, 2024. RIP.

Amir John Haddad "El Amir"
An exceptional musician par excellence

It is a real need for me to publish a few thoughts about this gifted guitarist and friend.
I met him when he was about six years old. He was born in Freiburg, the son of a native Palestinian and a native Colombian. His father was an engineer at the Fraunhofer Institute in Freiburg and a decent lute player. This encouraged Amir to learn a stringed instrument at a young age. The guitar captivated him from the start, and he continued his path autodidactically after a few early lessons with various teachers. He had great success very soon. He became a member of the group “El Jaleo”, in which I also played for a few years. After graduating from high school, he moved to Spain. In Jerez, Pepe Justicia (RIP) became his teacher and gave him the tools for his career as a flamenco guitarist. He soon became a duo partner of Pepe Justicia, perfecting his playing day after day.

Madrid was the next stage of his career. He soon made a name for himself there as a brilliant multi-instrumentalist. He has performed countless gigs with guitar, lute and bouzouki in various formations. He soon became a sought-after string virtuoso for all kinds of music. He also graduated from the tablao guitarist’s tough school in Madrid. Playing night after night for hours, often without amplification for dancers and singers is one of the toughest schools there is.
He settled near Malaga a few years ago, where he still resides today.

We are united by a deep, old friendship, shaped by many common activities, in the form of concerts, workshops, etc. I produced one Solo CD from him (9 Guitarras). I have observed his development and career with great pleasure. He is currently on major tours with composer Hans Zimmer. He is a soloist in a large ensemble. He recently went on a major European tour. He will travel with Hans Zimmer to the USA in the fall: more than 25 concerts in two months. Extremely large concert halls are sold out everywhere.
I was lucky to see two small concerts of his in Germany in March. These were solo concerts with Ricardo Espinosa as percussionist. It was a great experience to be able to enjoy his playing again as a soloist after a long time. For many years, I haven’t seen anyone play live who has impressed me so much. He exudes a serenity that fascinates while at the same time masterfully interpreting the most difficult pieces. All the pieces are his own compositions. The audience was thrilled. And I too was completely overwhelmed by so much virtuosity and genius.
At the beginning of April, I took the chance when he visited his parents in Freiburg after his small tour of Germany to record a few new videos with him in Thomas Vogt’s recording studio. You can watch these videos on my YouTube channel starting from the 2nd week of April. I chose some very special guitars for this.  You can admire him and his playing in Würzburg on April 26 and 27. On search for tickets you should google “Flamenco Festival Würzburg”. I can only recommend to everyone to take advantage of this opportunity.
Hasta Luego
